Climate change is a serious challenge. NiftiBusiness is taking ambitious steps towards a more sustainable future. We are changing our own behaviour to create a more sustainable and better shared future, to make a difference in people’s lives, communities and our planet by doing business the right way.

We are taking action on climate change

Conventional cars use internal combustion engines (ICEs) that run on fossil fuels like gas or diesel. EVs are a greener alternative to gas or diesel vehicles because they operate by using one or more electric motors powered by rechargeable batteries. By eliminating exhaust, EVs reduce greenhouse gas emissions and so are an important step in sustainable transportation. Since 2021, 80% of our staff fleet is electric and this number is growing.

We are reducing our emissions by adopting renewable energy sources

Did you know that if we could capture all of the sun’s energy shining on the Earth for just one hour, we could power the entire world for one year! We wish we had the resources to do that but we are doing our part to tackle climate change. As part of our commitment to change, our HQ has been retrofitted with solar panels which provide 40% of all our electricity needs. Since installing the 350 solar panels in 2019, we have reduced our greenhouse gases by 50% and our staff fleet of EV cars is powered by 100% solar power.

A breath of fresh air

One of the biggest benefits of solar energy is that it results in very few air pollutants. Widespread solar adoption can significantly reduce nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter emissions, all of which can cause health problems. We are so happy our panels are improving local air quality.

We offset carbon emissions

Our everyday activities consume energy and produce carbon emissions. Increased greenhouse gas emissions have a direct impact on global warming. Carbon offsetting is a great way to make up for those emissions and plays a vital role in combating climate change.

The electricity consumed by website servers and by our computers accounts for more than 2% of the world’s air pollution, which, according to the International Council on Clean Transportation (icct), is the same amount as the global airline industry. We have partnered with Tree-Nation, an organisation with plantation projects in over 200 locations worldwide, to make our website C02 neutral.

We are members of Techies Go Green, a movement of IT and tech orientated companies committed to decarbonising their businesses, making them green and verifiably sustainable.

Cutting out paper

Did you know turning one tree into 17 reams of paper releases around 110 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere. The world produces 300 million tons of paper every year, with paper used in offices comprising the largest category. Aside from paper, the printer, ink, and cartridges can be harmful to the environment due to the amount of oil used in their production and when not disposed of correctly, their chemicals can cause pollution. At NiftiBusiness we are on the way to removing paper from our workflows and processes. By doing this we are contributing to saving trees, helping to reduce pollution, saving water and cutting down on the use of fossil fuels for ink production.

No single use plastics

Plastic waste is one of the most challenging issues facing us today. According to Plastic Oceans, the world produces over 300 million tons of plastic every year, half of which is for single-use purposes – with much of this making its way into the oceans. Plastic production, use, and disposal all emit large amounts of greenhouse gasses. According to a recent study from the University of California, the emissions from plastics were equivalent to nearly 1.8 billion metric tons of CO2. At NiftiBusiness we are working towards 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable plastics to do our part to help the planet.
